Searching for a job can be a stressful and time-consuming process, which can be made easier with preparation. You do not need to despair with the right skills, attitude and time you will get your dream job. Job seeking tips Don't be shy — contact friends, family and industry associates to let them know that you are looking for work. Tell everyone about the kind of role you're after. This way, there will be more people on the lookout for your perfect job. Target companies you would like to work for and send them your details. Even if nothing is available now, your initiative may be remembered at the right time. Applying for a job Information on salaries Before you go into a salary discussion make sure you've researched your value in the marketplace, i.e. your general market value based on skills and experience, and your value to your employer. Ensure that you have an idea of what your contribution will be to the organization tying to employ you. Prepare some valid reasons for why you believe you are at a particular remuneration level. It is also important for you to know the range of other salary guides for business, finance and accounting industries. When you're negotiating your remuneration be prepared to be flexible. Not all jobs will have room for negotiation, and you may have to decide what you are prepared to work for given your experience. |
