ICPAU’S Social Responsiveness PDF Print E-mail

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has been socially responsive and undertaking several social and community initiatives. The Council of ICPAU defines and shapes our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy (CSRP) which translates into social or community interventions.

ICPAU’s interest is to respond to the interests (social, environmental) of the community in which we operate. This has been done with full awareness that members, employees, government and stakeholders, look beyond every organizations interest and mandate, to its actions and behaviour in the wider community. Plus the fact that Accountants’ role rotates around public interest.

ICPAU therefore has an obligation to promote social and environmental well being of the communities within areas of operation.

Dr. Moses Muwanga, the Medical Superintendent at Entebbe Hospital exchanging a handshake of gratitude with CPA Patrick Kagoro, the Vice President, ICPAU, during the handover ceremony.

As way of giving back to the community, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) met an urgent need when it donated a state of the art multi-purpose operating table plus an operating lamp to Entebbe Hospital during the recently concluded 17th Annual Seminar. “As CPA we have a role to play in uplifting standards, not only accounting, but also social,” CPA Patrick Kagoro who presided over the function said. Mr. Kagoro urged members to meet similar needs within their communities instead of waiting for government intervention.

In September 2011, ICPAU again organized a CSR activity at Entebbe Grade B Hospital. 50 Mattresses were donated to the women’s wing. This gesture put smiling faces on both the patients and the hospital administrators who were constrained by lack of proper mattresses in that wing. It should be noted that Entebbe Hospital receives patients from as far as Ssese Islands and the surrounding areas.

ICPAU continues to be committed to CSR activities as part of its way of demonstrating the her core value of “social responsiveness”.

In 2010, ICPAU successfully organized a Charity Walk in aid of Katalemwa Cheshire Home (KCH). The effort was galvanized to build a dormitory for the disabled children who seek medical assistance at the facility. Although the targeted amount of money required was 200 million, 100 million shillings was raised.  Efforts are underway to start the construction having completed the architectural drawings and helped KCH formalise their site map. The Council of ICPAU is determined to push this CSR activity to the end because of the importance of providing accommodation to disabled children; who have a hope of living normally after undergoing treatment from KCH.

Needless to mention, ICPAU also donated generously to the Bududa Landslide victims. The members of the Institute generously contributed Shs4,310,000 which was handed over to the Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society.
