The Public Accountants Examinations Board of the Institute of certified Public Accountants of Uganda through has released the August 2023 examination results at the Protea by Marriot; Skyz Hotel, Naguru today 11 September 2023.

The results are for the second examinations diet under the revised syllabus that became examinable in 2023. It is also the second time the computer-based Integration of Knowledge examination (Paper 18) is being examined. There has been an improvement in candidates’ performance in the said paper, compared to the performance in June 2023. The female candidates performed better than the male, with a 41.6% pass rate compared to 36.1 for the male.

This is the glimpse that female numbers in the accountancy profession will eventually outnumber the male dominated profession.

In her address, the Chairperson of the Public Accountants Examinations Board, CPA Prof. Laura Aseru Orobia noted that 61.9% of the top candidates were female and 38.1% were male.

“Overall, the subject pass rate for female candidates was 34.1% whereas that of their male counterparts was 31.5%. Clearly, the female candidates performed better than their male counterparts,” cited CPA Prof. Orobia.

She noted that the sitting had more females than males and that the 9% gap speaks volumes and is an indicator that the females have gathered confidence to plunge into the once male-dominated space. She added that the trend has been consistent with the previous sitting where females have outshone the males.

“With great delight I’m glad that female candidates are doing well. Within no time we shall have the gap closed. We are looking at a future where we shall have more female members than their male counterparts, which is so exciting for the accountancy profession,” said CPA Josephine Okui Ossiya, ICPAU President.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda experienced disruptions occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic which altered the examinations diets hence the last August Examinations being held in 2019. However, this year, with the return to normalcy, PAEB’s calendar of May/June, August and November/ December was reintroduced.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) conducts three (3) examinations diets every year, that is June, August and December. The CPA(U) course is designed to produce competent professional accountants, capable of making a positive contribution to the profession and the national economy in general. The graduates of the course have the potential to serve in many capacities, which include financial and management accountants, finance managers, auditors, tax and financial consultants, chief operating officers, chief executive officers and many others.
