A total of 44 schools participated in the 15th ICPAU Junior Woodball Championship held on 14 June 2025 at World Ahead Secondary School in Matugga. The event was organised by the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) in partnership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

The tournament attracted 32 secondary and 12 primary schools from across the country, bringing together over 500 enthusiastic young players. The championship continues to grow as a platform for developing talent and promoting soft skills through sport.

In the boys’ category, Our Lady of Africa Secondary School, Namilyango, emerged as champions. Luzira Secondary School triumphed in the girls’ category after an exciting final match against Mpoma Girls School.

In the primary schools category, Rahim Kalema from Willing Hearts Junior School was recognised both as the youngest participant at just 6 years and as the best male player, a remarkable dual achievement.

While officially teeing off the tournament, Lydia Tusiime, Business Development Manager at ICPAU, reaffirmed the Institute’s dedication to empowering the youth through partnerships that foster both academic and non-academic excellence.

“By partnering with the federation to promote this sport across the country, we aim to nurture soft skills such as critical thinking and teamwork among young people, ultimately shaping competent stewards of Uganda’s economy,” said Ms. Tusiime.

John Bosco Kaddu, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Woodball Federation, appreciated ICPAU's 15-year partnership with the federation. He also praised the organisers for their commitment, which has significantly contributed to the sport's growth, culminating in woodball being added to the official list of National Ball Games.

Among the standout performers was Najja Jasmine, a student at St. Mark’s College Namagoma, who said she enjoys woodball because it is easy to learn and fun to play. Najja’s efforts were rewarded when she was crowned the best female player in the secondary schools category.

Samuel Ssenkaayi, Headteacher of the host school, World Ahead SS Matugga, expressed pride in hosting and participating in the championship for the first time. He applauded the organisers for their professionalism and for prioritising the development of young people through such impactful initiatives.

The 15th ICPAU Junior Woodball Championship was a display of sporting talent and a clear demonstration of what collaborations can accomplish. Through their investment in youth sports, ICPAU and UWbF are nurturing a generation that embraces discipline, teamwork, and excellence both on and off the pitch.
