CPA Christine Mugume - FM931

CPA Christine Mugume is a full member of ICPAU since 2009.

Having served on the Technical Committee/Professional Standards Committee of Council from 2013-2018 and made significant contributions, her motivation for seeking election is anchored on the desire to serve the Institute at a higher level given her experience. She would like to see continued momentum that emphasises continuous improvement for members.

She also looks forward to overseeing the deepening of the Institute’s mandate in the growth and regulation of the Accountancy profession in Uganda in line with the Regulatory framework.

Christine’s overall objective for her nomination is to ensure there is continuity at the Institute. She is willing to voluntarily offer her service to the Institute by continuing with the work aimed at propelling the Institute to being a world class professional accountancy Institute. Overall, her objective is to ensure that appropriate governance oversight is provided, the work of accountants is continuously improved and appropriate engagement processes are in place.

Over the years, Christine has been able to make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of the accountancy profession in Uganda. She served as a Lecturer of Taxation papers at the Management and Accountancy Training School. Through this role, she played a part in shaping the technical competence and professional ethics of many accountants who are today serving in both pubic and private sectors across the country.

To support students and Tax professionals, Christine Authored a book titled ‘Managing Taxation in Uganda’ which continues to be used as a reference.

Another transformative initiative for Christine has been to lead the formation of the CPA SACCO. Recognising the need for financial empowerment among professional accountants, she championed the establishment of this savings and credit cooperative as a vehicle for promoting financial independence and collective prosperity. For over 4 years, she served at the helm of the SACCO spearheading its growth, building systems and governance structures and ensuring it remained true to its mission

Christine is a career accountant/tax professional who has worked with reputable organisations/firms such as URA, PKF, PWC where she rose through the ranks from entry level officer to senior management/practice positions. She holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Heriot-Watt University of Scotland, a certificate in Project Procurement Management and Personal Skills from UMI, a Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation and Revenue Administration from URA and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology and Social Sciences from Makerere University.

Christine is currently a Partner at CMK & Co since 2013 to date.
