The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) will hold the 11th CPA Economic Forum from 19 – 21 July 2023 at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, and online.

The theme for the Forum is National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development. The theme is based on Uganda’s third National Development Plan (NDP III) which is a tool for the achievement of Uganda’s Vision 2040, a transformed Ugandan Society from a Peasant to a Modern and Prosperous Country within 30 years.

From the NDP III priorities, 8 topics have been selected for discussion at the 11th CPA Economic Forum, namely:

  1. Cooperative Societies as a Driver for Socio-Economic Transformation

  2. Role of Security in Nation Building

  3. Empowering Communities through Agricultural Value Addition

  4. Labour Exports: Socio-Economic Benefits and Challenges

  5. Education Sector: Reforms in Curriculum

  6. Uganda’s Oil and Gas Sector: Value chain for Public Value

  7. Hospital, Tourism Management and Marketing

  8. Industrialisation as a Driver for Self-Reliance

“In selecting the theme, our aim is to contribute towards the ongoing efforts to transform Uganda into a modern and prosperous country,” said CPA Derick Nkajja, the Secretary/CEO of ICPAU.

Resolutions from the discussions will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, as part of accountants’ efforts to contribute towards the economy’s growth and priorities for the government’s budgeting process each `year.

The CPA Economic Forum was introduced in 2012 as a platform for dialogue on national economic matters, in a bid to contribute to national economic policy formulation.

Since the introduction of the Economic Forum, 10 sets of policy recommendations have been forwarded to the government.

During a recent dialogue on the 2023/24 national budget, renowned economic expert, Dr. Fred Muhumuza appreciated accountants for their consistent input to national economic policy formulation.

The Economic Forum encourages multidisciplinary collaboration and brings together tax consultants, economists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, investment experts, accountants, government officials, policymakers, accountants, development enthusiasts, and other professionals.
