CPA Dr Okonye is the Internal Auditor General of Uganda since 2019. He is a Partner at Pal and Lisa Associates, Certified Public Accountants, and a Trustee with the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Previously, he was the Commissioner, Internal Audit and Inspection at the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, a position he held for 10 years. He also served as Senior Principal Auditor in the Office of the Auditor General for 15 years at various levels.

He served as President of the Institute of Internal Auditors from 2015 to 2017, and Senior Vice President from 2013 to 2015. From 2011- 2013, he was Vice President.

Dr Okonye’s other roles include Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee of the East African Community, membership of the Board of Finance, and the Board of Planning and Development at the Province of the Church of Uganda.

From 2013 – 2018, he served as a member of the Technical Committee of ICPAU.

CPA Dr Okonye is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner. He holds a PhD in Business Administration.
