The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has launched the 2026 edition of the Student Scholarship Programme.

The unveiling event, which also doubled as the unveiling ceremony for the 7th cohort of the scholarship programme, was held on Wednesday, 28 January 2026 at the Protea by Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz.

Speaking at the event, the President of ICPAU, CPA Timothy David Ediomu, congratulated the beneficiaries for emerging successful from a highly competitive selection process that attracted 351 applicants.

“You are a few out of very many who applied. I encourage you to fully leverage this opportunity to improve your skills and position yourselves to step boldly into the future with world-recognised professional accountancy qualifications,” Ediomu said.

Representing the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of ICPAU, the Manager Business Development, Ms Lydia Tusiime, noted that the scholarship programme reflects ICPAU’s commitment to both growing the accountancy profession and giving back to the community.

“This programme is our way of investing in the future of the profession while creating opportunities for deserving students to access professional training,” she remarked.

The event also featured testimonials from past beneficiaries. Emily Namwano, a beneficiary of the 3rd cohort, shared her journey and expressed gratitude to ICPAU for supporting students with the ambition to pursue the CPA qualification.

“The scholarship presents both an opportunity and a responsibility. While the financial support enables access to professional education, it also demands discipline, planning, hard work, and accountability from the beneficiary,” Namwano noted.

Namwano completed the CPA course in December 2025, emerging as the best female candidate and the second-best candidate overall in that examination sitting.

Another past beneficiary from the 4th cohort, Mr Anthony Tumwebaze, encouraged the new scholars to remain focused and strive to become role models and sources of inspiration within their communities.

Delivering the keynote address, the Chief Guest, CPA Stephen Muchelule, who is also the reigning Young Accountant of the Year, urged the beneficiaries to treat the scholarship as a rare opportunity that must be protected through commitment and excellence.

“Opportunities such as this come once, and you are indebted to guard it by fully embracing the responsibility that comes with it. The future of the profession has been placed in your hands, and you must work hard to grow it,” Muchelule remarked.

The ICPAU Student Scholarship Programme is a financial aid programme for students who desire to study the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course. It was launched in 2019 and so far, seventy (70) beneficiaries have been awarded.
