The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) will hold its May/June 2023 examinations from 29 May – 2 June for the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda [(CPA)], Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) courses and Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD). These are the first set of examinations under the new syllabuses and model papers were issued to assist students with their preparations. The examinations will be conducted at all seven (7) centres, namely: Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara and Nkozi. 6,655 students (CPA: 6419, ATD: 119, CTA:117) have registered to sit for the exams. The Institute has held sensitisation sessions with candidates and model papers were issued to assist candidates to acclimitise with the mode for computer-based exams.

For the first time, computer-based examinations will be conducted for Integration of Knowledge, Paper 18 of the CPA(U) course. ICPAU has introduced computer-based examinations as part of the initiatives to enhance computer literacy through the qualifications scheme.

Computer-based examinations will further enhance the Institute’s preparedness for uncertainties that could disrupt the examinations calendar, as we previously witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic season,” said CPA Derick Nkajja, ICPAU’s Secretary/CEO.

Through the examinations process, accounting technicians, tax advisors and qualified accountants are released to serve in the various sectors of the economy. From every examination diet, approximately 115 qualified accountants are passed out. Professional accountancy education has a strong focus on technical and professional skills, as well as values and attitudes, which are a must for accountants.

Since the establishment of the ICPAU examinations scheme, cumulatively, 4,803 qualified accountants, 77 Certified Tax Advisors and 1,825 Accounting Technicians have been released to the job market.

Results for the May/June diet are expected to be released on 26 June 2023.

There are three examinations diets in 2023. The next diets include 21 to 25 August and 27 November to 1 December.

Registration for the August diet commences on 1 July 2023.
