The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has launched the 10th edition of the prestigious Accountancy Service Awards (ASA), a celebration that honours individuals, teams and organisations making remarkable contributions to the accounting profession in Uganda and beyond. The launch took place on 13 August 2025 at Hotel Africana.

Speaking at the event, Lydia Tusiime, ICPAU’s Manager Business Development, highlighted that nominations are open to ICPAU members, students, and the general public.

“These awards shine a spotlight on exceptional service, innovation, ethical leadership, and real impact within the profession. Whether it’s an experienced CPA, an emerging talent, or a high-performing finance team, we want to recognise and celebrate them,” noted Tusiime.

For the first time since their inception, the awards will be held as a standalone gala, scheduled for 3 October 2025 at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, marking a departure from the traditional hosting alongside the ICPAU Annual Seminar.

According to CPA Sandra Nakibuule Batte, Chairperson of the ICPAU Members Services Committee, the awards have evolved into a benchmark for excellence.

“Over the past decade, the Accountancy Service Awards have become a respected model for honouring professionalism and inspiring distinction. They reward individuals who uphold ethics, innovation, and contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s economic and social progress,” she said.

Centenary Rural Development Bank, the official partner, reaffirmed its support for the initiative. Immaculate Ngulumi, the bank’s Chief Manager Branding and Marketing, applauded accountants for their critical role in economic growth and financial stability.

“Out of over 4,000 accountants in the country, being recognised is a remarkable achievement. Accountants safeguard trust in business, ensure transparent record-keeping, and maintain financial integrity. We support these awards because we value professionalism,” she explained, urging the public to nominate those who exemplify accountability and ethics.

Sharing his experience, CPA Joseph Osako, the 2024 Young Accountant of the Year credited resilience and a passion for growing the profession as key to his success. He said his dedication to training aspiring accountants was his way of giving back to the profession.

The ASAs honour excellence across various fronts, including innovation, outstanding achievement in accounting, mentorship, long service, authorship, contributions to knowledge, teamwork, human resource best practice, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, support to ICPAU, and humanitarian service.

The 2025 award categories are:
