MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), held a special edition of its Monthly Tee golf series at the Entebbe Golf Club on May 17, 2025, celebrating the contribution of accountants to Uganda’s economic growth and governance.

Dubbed the “Next Gen Accountants Edition,” the event brought together members of ICPAU, business leaders, golfers, and members of the media to honour the accounting profession under the theme, “Together, our Compliance is Unstoppable.”

Hosted by MTN Uganda’s Chief Financial Officer and golfer Andrew Bugembe, the event spotlighted the role of accountants in fostering financial transparency and supporting innovation in a digital economy.

“Accountants are the silent guardians of financial transparency and business sustainability,” said Bugembe during the 19th Hole Celebration. “As MTN, we believe that when compliance meets innovation, we unlock real progress. That’s what makes our partnership with ICPAU so timely and relevant.”

Bugembe noted that MTN’s investments in digital tools and systems are underpinned by robust financial and accounting practices, and he lauded the accountants within MTN Uganda for upholding high professional standards.

Representing ICPAU, Vice President CPA Ronald Mutumba thanked MTN Uganda for supporting the profession and lauded its staff for being active members in good standing.

“CPAs at MTN Uganda actively engage with the Institute. CPA Bugembe, thank you for your exemplary leadership, and please convey our gratitude to Madam Sylvia Mulinge for MTN Uganda’s unwavering support to the professional development of accountants,” said Mutumba.

CPA Mutumba emphasized that this partnership with MTN is both timely and significant, especially given the growing number of golf enthusiasts within the accountancy profession.

“I’m pleased to note that this tournament is graced by some of ICPAU’s most distinguished accountants — CPA George William Egaddu, our founding President and today’s chief golfer, and CPA Ben Patrick Kagoro, the sixth President,” he said.

“The theme ‘Next Gen Accountants’ reflects our intent to bridge generational gaps and inspire younger accountants to actively engage in networking, wellness, and leadership beyond the numbers.”

He reiterated the importance of hiring certified public accountants, citing their role in upholding public trust, legal compliance, and effective financial stewardship.

“Being part of the national accountancy organisation not only strengthens compliance but also enhances one’s professional journey as we work towards national development,” he added.

Mutumba also applauded the integration of sport into professional life. “ICPAU believes that physical well-being is a critical component of a member’s professional development. Events like these help us connect, recharge, and build valuable social capital,” he said.

The day featured thrilling golf action with professionals and a dedicated training session for ICPAU members.  The top performers were recognized and awarded during the prize-giving ceremony.
